Wet or Dry? How to Choose Between a Water Slide and a Bounce House
It's one of the first questions every host asks: do we go wet with a water slide, or dry with a bounce house? Both are crowd-pleasers, but the right pick depends on a handful of practical details — the season, your guests, your venue, and whether you want to deal with water at all. Here's how to choose with confidence.
Start with the season and weather
Weather is the fastest way to narrow your decision.
- Hot summer days (think 25°C+): A water slide is hard to beat. It cools everyone down and turns the party into the event of the season.
- Spring, fall, or unpredictable forecasts: A dry bounce house keeps the fun going without anyone getting cold and wet.
- Indoor venues or chilly evenings: Dry is the safe, comfortable choice — no soaked floors, no shivering guests.
If the forecast is borderline, a combo unit (more on those below) lets you decide on the day.
Consider your guests' ages
Both options scale across ages, but they shine in different ways.
- Toddlers (2–5): Bounce houses are often the gentler, more contained choice. Small wet slides work too on warm days, with close supervision.
- Big kids (6–11): This group loves both. Water slides bring the thrill; bounce houses with obstacles keep energy high.
- Teens and adults: Water slides usually win for the wow factor, especially taller units. Larger obstacle-style dry units also entertain older crowds.
Mixed ages at the same party? A combo unit or a bounce house with a dry slide gives everyone something they'll enjoy.
Look at your venue
Your space often makes the decision for you.
- Grass yard, outdoors, summer: Ideal for a water slide — soft ground, good drainage, easy splash zone.
- Hard surfaces (driveway, patio, gym floor): Lean dry. Water on concrete or indoor floors gets slippery and messy.
- Indoors: Dry only. Bounce houses and dry slides are made for gyms, halls, and large rooms.
- Tight or sloped yards: Share dimensions with us; we'll tell you which option fits safely.
Be honest about water access and mess
A water slide needs a nearby spigot and a garden hose, plus a yard that can handle runoff. That's easy for most homes, but worth checking.
- Pros of wet: Built-in cooling, huge splash-day energy, unforgettable summer memories.
- Cons of wet: Wet kids, towels everywhere, a damp patch of lawn, and the need for water access.
- Pros of dry: No water, no mess, works almost anywhere and any season.
- Cons of dry: Less cooling on a scorching day, and arguably a touch less "wow" in peak summer.
If you have a grass yard, a hose, and a hot forecast, wet is usually the winner. If any of those are missing, dry is the easier, safer call.
Supervision matters either way
Water raises the stakes a little: wet surfaces, splash pools, and excited kids all call for attentive adults. Dry units are more forgiving but still need someone watching the entrance and managing turns.
For busy parties or events, ask us about an optional on-site attendant — a trained crew member who manages loading, rotation, and safety so you can enjoy the day.
The best of both: combo units
Don't want to choose? You may not have to.
- Combo units often include a bounce area plus a slide, giving you variety in one footprint.
- Many of our slides run dry now or wet later — start dry for a cool morning, add water when the afternoon heats up.
- This flexibility is perfect for unpredictable weather, mixed-age guests, or hosts who simply want options.
If you're torn, a convertible unit is often the smartest booking — you keep the decision open right up to party time.
A quick way to decide
- Is it hot and are you outside on grass with a hose? → Lean wet.
- Indoors, hard surface, or cool/unpredictable weather? → Lean dry.
- Mixed ages or not sure about the forecast? → Choose a combo or a run-dry-or-wet unit.
- Still unsure? → Tell us your details and we'll recommend the perfect fit.
